The Jatiya Sangsad Sunday passed the Rabindra University Bangladesh Bill-2016 in an amendment form to ensure higher studies and research on Rabindranath Tagore.
The bill was passed with voice votes with Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Miah in the chair, BSS reports.
On April 26, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Education Ministry M Afsarul Amin submitted the report on the bill as per the Rule 211 of the Rules of Procedure of the parliament with recommendations of passage of the bills unanimously by the House.
Earlier, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid introduced the Rabindra University Bangladesh Bill 2016 in the House on February 8 for establishing a university at Shahzadpur in Sirajganj district after the name of Nobel laureate Poet Rabindranath Tagore to make immortal the creations of the poet in the memory of people.
The cabinet approved the draft of "The Rabindra University Law, 2015" on May 11 with a view to preserving the memory of Bishwakabi Rabindranath Tagore as well as pursuing studies and carrying out research on his works and creation.
