BNP leader Aslam charged for vandalism

A Chittagong court on Monday has framed vandalism charges against BNP leader Aslam Chowdhury.

The Court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Mahmudul Hasan indicted him after taking the charges brought by Sitakundu police into cognizance, UNB reports.

The court also set September 19 for further hearing in the case.

Court sources said Sitakunda Thana Sub-Inspector Nazrul Islam filed the case against Aslam under the Special Power Act 1974 on charges of vandalising vehicles during a Hartal called by 18-party alliance on November 16, 2013.

Police on April 12, 2014 submitted charge sheet against 42 people including BNP joint secretary general Aslam.

Police arrested Aslam from Dhaka's Khilkhet area on May 15 and later brought charges of treason against him.
