Sumon confesses murder attempt on Tutul

A Dhaka court on Tuesday recorded the confessional statement of Sumon, a suspected member of banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), over the murder attempt on publisher and blogger Ahmed Rashid Tutul.

Metropolitan Magistrate M Ahsan Habib recorded the statement of Shihab alias Saiful alias Sumon alias Shakib under section of 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure after Inspector Bahauddin of the Detective Branch (DB) produced him before the court on completion of a five-day remand, UNB reports.

The court also sent the suspected militant to jail.

On June 16, detectives arrested Sumon from the Airport bus stand area of the capital. Later, he was put on a five-day remand for interrogation over the attack on Tutul.

Earlier on October 31 last, three people, including Shuddhoswar publisher Ahmed Rashid Tutul, were hacked by unidentified miscreants at the publishing house in the city’s Lalmatia area.
