Police on Monday claimed that they have found involvement of two Rajshahi University students in the killing of Prof AFM Rezaul Karim Siddiquee.
Both, students of the English department, have remained in hiding since after the killing, said Sardar Tamijuddin Ahmed, additional commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, adding the two have also militant link and after their arrest it also could be confirmed where anymore had hand in the killing.
“Ideological conflict is the main factor behind the murder. We did not find any personal reason,” said the RMP official.
He also said police have already arrested five people in connection with the killing.
They include accused RU student Shariful’s father Abdul Hakim and brother Ariful Islam.
“They’ve informed us that Shariful had no contact with his family members after the incident. We are not disclosing the name of another accused for the sake of investigation,” added Tamijuddin.
Prof Rezaul Karim, 58, of the RU English Department, was hacked to death by miscreants in the city's Shalbagan area while he was waiting for university bus on April 23.
Victim’s son Sourov Hossain filed a murder case with Boalia Police Station.
The case was transferred to the Detective Branch (DB) of police.
