2-day robotics competition begins in RUET

A two-day Inter-university robotics competition began at Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) today (Thursday) with the main thrust of more expansion of robotic study and research, reports BSS.

Department of Mechatronics Engineering (MTE) of RUET and Robotic Society of RUET (RSR) organized the "Inter University ROBOTECH FEST- 2016" for the first time.

This event will make a platform for the enthusiasts of Robotics, Electronics, Programing and Mechanics. Also officials from renowned companies will enlighten the event.

There are six individual segments like informatics olympiad, idea contest, hardware project show, software exhibition, mechanics olympiad and ROBORUN in the event.

RUET Vice-chancellor Prof Rafiqul Alam Beg addressed the opening session as chief guest with Prof Dr Rokonuzzaman, Head of Department of MTE and President of RSR in the chair.

Dean of Mechanical Engineering Faculty Prof Nirendra Nath Mustafi, Students Welfare Director Prof NHM Kamruzzaman and Professor Dr Sajal Chandra Banik from Chittagong Engineering and Technology University also spoke.

In his remarks, VC Prof Rafiqaue Beg said importance and area of robotic study and research has gradually been increasing across the world. Tendency of using robot is mounting in various fields from family to state level.

He hoped that the event will play a pivotal role in preparing and expanding fields of robotic study and research in Bangladesh.

Wide-ranging expansion of modern information and communication technology is very important to make the nation happy, prosperous, educated and free from illiteracy, he said.

More than 42 teams comprising 152 competitors from around eight technological public universities across the country are taking part in the programme in three categories.
