Awami League will hold its rally at Bangabandhu Avenue on January 5 if the party does not get permission from Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to hold it at Suhrawardy Udyan, reports UNB.
“We applied to the DMP on December 31 to hold our rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on January 5, but we’re yet to get any reply. We came to know the police wouldn’t allow anyone to hold any rally there on the day. In this case, our programme will be held at Bangabandhu Avenue,” Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said.
The ruling party leader said this while briefing reporters after a meeting with the party’s associate bodies held at AL president’s Dhanmondi political office in the city on Sunday.
Earlier on Saturday, Awami League declared to hold rallies across the country on January 5 to observe ‘Victory Day for Democracy’, the 2nd anniversary of January 2014 election.
The party formed 18 teams, led by the party’s senior leaders, to organise the programme simultaneously at 2.30 pm in different parts of the capital, including Suhrawardy Udyan.
