The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will bring out colourful processions in Dhaka and across the country on Saturday, marking the historic 7 November National Revolution and Solidarity Day.

Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman will inaugurate the central procession in the capital.

BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the programme at a press conference at the party's central office in Nayapaltan on Friday.

As part of the BNP's seven-day programme marking the occasion, the central procession will be held in Dhaka on Saturday (7 November).

Tarique Rahman will inaugurate the procession in front of the BNP central office in Nayapaltan. He will then take part in the procession and lead it on foot.

Rizvi said the procession would start from the party's central office in Nayapaltan and turn right near the Chief Justice's residence. It would then proceed past the Hotel InterContinental, through Banglamotor and Farmgate, before ending at Manik Mia Avenue.

Earlier in the morning, at 8:30am, Tarique Rahman will pay homage and offer Fateha at the graves of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, the proclaimer of independence, and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, accompanied by senior party leaders.

Rizvi said the BNP's seven-day programme began on 5 November. As part of the programme, activities had already been held in Chattogram city, while processions would be organised in most districts and metropolitan cities across the country on Saturday.

Besides, different associate and affiliated organisations of the BNP would hold discussion meetings, put up posters and organise various other programmes.

Other political parties and alliances, as well as cultural organisations and groups representing different professions and sections of society that believe in the spirit of 7 November, have also taken programmes to observe the day with due dignity, he said.

Rizvi further said the government of Sheikh Hasina had stopped observing the day at the state level out of fear of the spirit of 7 November.

The BNP and like-minded political parties had continued to observe the day over the years, he said, adding that this year it would once again be observed at the state and national levels after a long gap.

Rizvi said the programme would uphold the historic spirit of 7 November and reaffirm the commitment to protecting democracy and sovereignty in the country.

He called on people from all walks of life, along with BNP leaders and activists, to take part in the procession in large numbers.

Rizvi also said the party had made the necessary preparations to ensure that the procession was held in a disciplined and orderly manner.
