Jatiya Somajtantrik Dal (Jasod) celebrated its 54th founding anniversary through discussions and various programmes in Dhaka, different districts and upazilas across the country on Saturday.
The party's central executive committee organised a discussion meeting at the Shaheed Colonel Taher Auditorium at its central office in the capital.
At the meeting, party leaders demanded the unconditional release of Jasod President Hasanul Haq Inu, claiming that he had been convicted through a farcical trial and a politically motivated verdict in a false case.
The leaders said the struggle for Inu's release must be strengthened as part of a broader movement to free Bangladesh from the influence of forces opposed to the Liberation War.
They also called for a united movement to restore democracy from what they described as a controlled and restricted system and to free the judiciary from vested interests.
The meeting was chaired by Jasod Vice-President Mir Hossain Akhtar and conducted by Joint General Secretary Obaidur Rahman Chunnu.
They said Jasod leaders and activists had remained committed to the party's ideology and upheld its flag despite various challenges, without being swayed by political confusion or personal considerations.
Expressing concern over the country's political situation, the leaders said Bangladesh is passing through a deep political crisis.
They alleged that forces opposed to the Liberation War and independence, including Razakars and Al-Badr, along with imperialist powers, are exercising influence over the country.
They further alleged that forces defeated in the Liberation War are seeking revenge, while the Liberation War and freedom fighters are being insulted.
According to speakers, religiously extremist and communal politics and culture associated with Pakistan are being imposed on the country.
They also claimed that mob violence and a lack of accountability are engulfing Bangladesh, while unequal agreements are undermining the country's independence and sovereignty.
The Jasod leaders called for efforts to free Bangladesh from the influence of anti-Liberation War and anti-independence forces and imperialist powers.
They also stressed the need to restore democracy from what they described as a controlled and restricted system and ensure an independent judiciary free from vested interests.
