Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir has rejected content creator Salman Muqtadir’s remark that “there are no (regular) students in Chhatra Dal”, saying the comment reflects a lack of understanding of the current reality of student politics in Bangladesh.
In a post on his Facebook page, Nasir said
Chhatra Dal currently has organisational and political activities at more than
2,000 educational institutions across the country, and that the majority of its
activists at those institutions are regular students.
He said regular students affiliated with
Chhatra Dal had played a significant role in what he described as the
anti-fascist movement over the past 17 years.
“Many were taken away from examination halls
and classrooms, tortured and sent to jail. Even while in prison, many Chhatra
Dal leaders and activists took part in examinations,” he said.
Nasir also said several regular students
affiliated with Chhatra Dal, including Wasim Akram, were killed during the July
mass uprising.
He attributed the alleged misconception about
student politics to what he described as political apathy among a section of
the younger generation during the “long rule” of Sheikh Hasina.
Nasir invited Salman to visit any college or
university of his choice and speak to Chhatra Dal members who are regular
students.
“I hope then your misconception will end and
you will realise that regular students make up the majority of Chhatra Dal,” he
said.
