The Opposition
alliance, led by Jamaat-e-Islami, expects that around 1,000 vehicles would join
their march from Dhaka to Chattogram on 5 September to press for July Charter
and referendum verdict implementation.
Jamaat
Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar gave the estimate of the number of vehicles
at a press briefing held at the party headquarters in the capital on Tuesday.
The long
march would begin from the Shapla Square in the capital around 7am on 5
September and end at the Laldighi Maidan in Chattogram, the Jamaat leader said.
During the march,
the alliance partners would also stage rallies at crucial points along the Dhaka-Chattogram
Highway, he said.
Jamaat sough
cooperation from the police during a meeting with officers on Monday, he added.
To avoid
public suffering, vehicles and activists would move through one side of the
road, and leave the other side for civilian movement, Porwar said.
Still, some
disruptions could happen, for which the party seeks people’s apology, he said.
