The Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has urged the president to immediately summon a special session of the Jatiya Sangsad to discuss and find ways to resolve the ongoing severe power and fuel crises, along with the deteriorating socio-economic and law and order situations.

Jamaat Ameer and JS Opposition Leader Shafiqur Rahman sent a letter in this regard to the president on Friday, the party said in a press statement.

Copies of the letter were also sent to the prime minister and the Parliament Secretariat.

According to the letter, the country is now facing an acute power crisis, with rampant load-shedding causing immense suffering to ordinary people and severely affecting industrial production, trade and commerce.

In addition, the direct impact of the power and fuel crises has pushed up the prices of essential commodities and led to the deterioration in the overall law and order situation, leaving people in a state of extreme uncertainty.

“As representatives of the people, we cannot remain silent in this critical period. In order to address the situation, it is essential to hold meaningful discussions in parliament and seek immediate solutions,” the ameer said in the letter.
