Jamaat-e-Islami
has expelled four activists after finding proofs of their involvement in
attacks on journalists during an anti-fascist and anti-Awami League
demonstration on Tuesday.
The
expelled activists are: Shafiqul Islam, Khairul Alam Rasel, Abul Kalam and
Mamun Hossain, read a press release issued by the opposition party’s unit at
Dhaka South.
The
“unexpected” and “grievous” incident erupted over a speech delivered by Jamaat
activists following the anti-fascist processions in Dhanmondi, the press
release added.
Immediately
after the attack, Jamaat leaders from the Dhaka South unit visited the house of
injured journalist Mahfujur Rahman Shishir, multimedia reporter at Dainik
Shakal.
Leaders
from the central committee and Dhaka city unit also issued statements, terming
the attack as “unfortunate,” the press release noted.
Following
the attack, Jamaat formed a four-member probe committee, and later, in keeping
with the committee’s recommendations, expelled four activists, it added.
