BNP Standing Committee member and former state minister Salahuddin Ahmed cast his vote in Pekua upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Thursday morning.
He exercised his franchise shortly after polling began at 8:20am at the Government Model GMC Institution centre in Pekua upazila headquarters.
He is contesting the Cox’s Bazar-1 constituency, comprising Chakaria and Pekua, with the sheaf of paddy symbol in the 13th National Parliamentary Election and Referendum.
His wife, former Member of Parliament Hasina Ahmed, and their son Saeed Ibrahim Ahmed, along with other family members, also cast their votes at the same centre.
Speaking to reporters after voting, Salahuddin Ahmed said, “A turning point in history has begun. I stood at the end of the queue and cast my vote. People here are now aware of their voting rights. So far, the voting environment is peaceful and normal.”
He added, “Our freedom fighters shed blood with certain expectations, and our martyrs sacrificed their lives with great hopes and dreams. We want to move forward through democratic practice.”
Salahuddin Ahmed was previously elected as a Member of Parliament three times from the Cox’s Bazar-1 constituency.
