Everyone in Jamaat-e-Islami knows and believes that Ziaur Rahman
declared the Independence of Bangladesh in 1971, said the party's leader Masood Sayedee on
Wednesday, denouncing “ill-motivated attempts” to question the party’s position
on the issue.
Masood Sayedee, the Islamist party’s election candidate in
Pirojpur-1 constituency, alleged that a vested group is spreading “wrong
information by distorting the party chief’s speech concerning the declaration
of independence.”
He condemned the smear campaign and urged authorities to
bring the defamators to book.
Masood Sayedee made the remarks at a press conference
organised in Pirojpur to highlight the details of a forthcoming election rally,
where Shafiqur Rahman would take part. The party leaders said that more than one
million people would join the rally.
Professor Tafazzal Hossain Farid, chief of the party’s
Pirojpur district unit, read out a written statement at the press conference.
