About 30 activists of Jamaat-e-Islami joined the Bangladesh
Nationalist Party (BNP) at an election campaign event held at Nakkattila Market
of Dhainagar Union, Shibganj upzila, Chapainawabganj, on Tuesday.
Professor Md Shahjahan Mia, candidate of the Sheaf of Paddy
symbol for Chapainawabganj-1 (Shibganj) constituency and adviser to the BNP chairman,
welcomed them with flower garlands.
Md Shahjahan said that the political party that truly loves and supports
Islam is BNP. President Ziaur Rahman included “Bismillah” in the constitution,
and also added the statement “complete faith in Allah”.
He congratulated the 30 new recruits from Jamaat and called upon everyone to
come under the banner of BNP in the future to build the country.
He also sought votes for the Sheaf of Paddy symbol and asked for everyone’s
cooperation to make Shibganj a model upazila by creating employment
opportunities for youth, ensuring overall development of mango production, and
creating adequate sports opportunities across the upazila to keep youths and
students away from drugs.
The meeting was presided over by AK Asgar Ali, convener of Dhainagar
Union Election Management Committee. Special guests included Shibganj Upazila
BNP Member Secretary Tosikul Alam, and others.
