BNP Chairperson’s Adviser Zainul Abedin Farroque has urged people to vote “no” in the July Charter referendum, adding his partymen would “clarify the voters” in this regard.

He made the remarks at a grassroots meeting of Mahila Dal, BNP’s women wing, at Dumuria Adarsha Girls’ High School in Senbag upazila, Noakhali.

He also asserted that people can chose to “dislike” him as a candidate in the upcoming elections, but they cannot “dislike BNP’s electoral symbol.” People can avoid voting for Farroque in the elections, despite his honest track record, but they have to vote for BNP, he said.

He has been elected as a lawmaker five times, but the next elections would be his last attempt, the BNP leader noted.

He also warned that a “conspiracy” is on.

“Some [political parties] say they would join the general elections in February, others say they won’t. Now, a new demand is being raised as prerequisite for joining polls: deputy prime minister’s post. For the past days, political parties cried for different demands like the proportionate representation system and the referendum.”
