Mariam Begum, mother of popular Bangladeshi film actress Sadika Parvin Popy, died at a hospital in the capital’s Moghbazar early Wednesday.
She was undergoing treatment at Insaf Barakah Kidney and General Hospital.
Film director Badiul Alam Khokon confirmed that Mariam Begum died at around 1:30am.
Mariam had been suffering from kidney disease and age-related complications. She was admitted to the hospital on 15 October after suffering a stroke at her residence in Gulshan’s Niketan the previous night.
Her condition deteriorated on Tuesday night, and she died while preparations were underway to transfer her to the intensive care unit.
Khokon said the first namaz-e-janaza would be held in Dhaka. Her body would then be taken to her village home in Khulna, where the second namaz-e-janaza would be held before her burial.
Popy, once a popular face in Dhallywood, has been away from acting and film-related activities for a long time.
