Prof Md Solaiman, vice-chancellor of the University of Science and Technology Chittagong (USTC), passed away early Thursday at the age of 80.
He breathed his last at around 5:00am while being taken from his residence in South Khulshi to CSCR Hospital in Chattogram after developing age-related health complications.
He had been suffering from heart disease and diabetes for a long time. He left behind two sons and a daughter.
His first funeral prayer will be held at Jamiatul Falah Mosque Complex after Juma prayers on Friday. The second janaza will take place at South Khulshi Mosque after Asr prayers, followed by a third janaza on the USTC campus.
He will later be buried at his village home in Sitakunda.
In a condolence message, the USTC Board of Trustees, Syndicate, Academic Council, teachers, officers and staff expressed deep sorrow over his death and commemorated his contributions to the university's academic and institutional development.
Describing him as a dedicated educationist, skilled administrator and sincere guardian, the university community said his contributions would be remembered with profound respect.
“With his demise, the USTC family has lost a devoted guardian,” the message said.
The university community prayed for the salvation of his departed soul and conveyed sympathy to his bereaved family.
