Bashundhara Shuvosangho carried out a cleanliness and awareness drive through its local unit in Monpura upazila of Bhola on Tuesday to curb the spread of dengue and other vector-borne diseases.
Volunteers cleaned up accumulated waste at several key locations, eliminating potential breeding sites of Aedes mosquitoes. They also engaged with local residents, emphasising the need to keep their surroundings clean and prevent stagnant water from accumulating in yards and rooftops.
Monpura Upazila Additional Executive Officer Tarik Chandra Shil, who attended the event as a guest, stressed that administrative measures alone cannot eradicate dengue without widespread civic awareness.
"Citizens must take personal ownership of their living spaces. Discarding waste properly and ensuring no water stagnates anywhere are the most effective defences against mosquito breeding," he said. Presided over by Bashundhara Shuvosangho Monpura unit President Abdur Rahman Soyeb, the drive was attended by the Bhola district unit Joint General Secretary Fazle Rabbi Rimon, among others.
"Relying entirely on authorities is not enough; individual hygiene and community alertness can significantly curb disease outbreaks," Soyeb said, adding that Shuvosangho would continue organising regular cleanup and public health campaigns across the region.
