At least five passengers were killed and 19 others injured after a bus rammed into a parked truck on the Dhaka–Chattogram highway in Sitakunda on Sunday.
The accident occurred around 6pm in the Battali area after the Chattogram-bound bus lost control, said Belal Hossain, in-charge of the Sitakunda Fire Service and Civil Defence station.
He said that  four bodies were recovered, and 20 injured passengers were rescued from the spot and taken to Sitakunda Upazila Health Complex.
The identities of the deceased and injured could not be known immediately, he added.
Dr Mohammad Imran, physician at the Emergency Department of the Upazila Health Complex, said that one of the 20 injured passengers succumbed to his injuries there.
Of the remaining injured, 12 were referred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for better treatment, he added.
