Youth on five-day remand, RMP chief summoned

A Rajshahi court on Saturday placed Limon Mia, 35, accused of killing Judge Mohammad Abdur Rahman’s son Tawshif Rahman Suman, 19, on a five-day remand and summoned the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) Commissioner to explain why the accused was allowed to speak to the media while in custody.

The remand, initially sought by police for seven days, was approved by Rajshahi Metropolitan Magistrate Subordinate Court Judge Md Mamunur Rashid, according to Rajshahi Metropolitan Court Inspector Ahmed Abdur Rauf.

Limon, son of HM Solaiman Shahid from Modonerpara village under Phulchari Police Station in Gaibandha, was produced in court following his arrest in the murder case filed by the victim’s father. He had been receiving treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) after being injured during the incident.

Tawshif was killed on Thursday afternoon at the family’s rented home in Dabtala. His mother, Tasmin Nahar Lucy, was also injured and is undergoing treatment at RMCH.

Judge Abdur Rahman filed a murder case with Rajpara Police Station on Friday. Following the post-mortem, Tawshif’s body was taken to Jamalpur for burial.
