The National Citizen Party (NCP) has temporarily relieved Shawkot Imran, organising secretary of the party’s Bogura district convening committee, of his organisational responsibilities after an explicit video allegedly involving him surfaced on social media.

The decision comes days after he was accused in a criminal case involving the alleged abduction and assault of a bank employee.

The decision was announced in a notice signed by Sadia Farzana Dinar, a member of the NCP’s Office Cell, on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the notice, Shawkot Imran faces allegations of moral misconduct and activities inconsistent with the party’s organisational discipline and ethical standards.

Considering the seriousness of the allegations, the party's Central Convener, Nahid Islam, MP, and Member Secretary, Akhtar Hossain, MP, directed that he be temporarily relieved of his organisational duties with immediate effect.

The party has also issued a show-cause notice asking him to explain within two working days why further disciplinary action should not be taken against him under the party's constitution and disciplinary rules.

He has been instructed to submit a written explanation, supporting evidence and any relevant documents to the party's Chief Organiser (Northern Region), Sarjis Alam.

Earlier, a case was filed with Bogura Sadar Police Station accusing Shawkot Imran of forcibly abducting a bank employee, assaulting him, robbing him of cash and a mobile phone, and later demanding additional money through the mobile financial service bKash.

On Monday, a 22-second explicit video allegedly involving Shawkot Imran was widely circulated on social media, triggering widespread public discussion and criticism.
