A mob vandalised the residential building of Nadim Hasan,
the younger brother of Awami League leader Habib Hasan, at Ahlia area in
Uttara, Dhaka on Monday evening.
During the attack, the mob also set fire to a microbus of Nadim parked next to the mansion, confirmed Turag Police Station Officer-in-Charge
Monirul Islam. The flames also spread to a nearby shop.
After the initial attack on the building, police managed to disperse
the unruly youths, but they torched the vehicle while leaving the site, Monirul
said.
Eyewitnesses said a group of around 100-150 unidentified
youths breached the facility around 4pm. They inflicted violence on
different parts of the mansion. Notably, two buildings belonging to the two
brothers, Nadim and Habib, are located inside the same boundaries.
The mob apparently mistook Nadim’s building to be Habib’s,
police said.
Fire service’s Duty Officer Rozina Akter said police and
the locals managed to douse the flames on the microbus before the fire service
could reach the spot. The vehicle was burnt completely, she noted, adding it was
already damaged.
Two units of fire service managed to douse the flames that
had spread to a nearby shop, Rozina said.
It is worth noting that Habib Hasan was a lawmaker from Dhaka-18 constituency.
