The interim government has called for calm and restraint across the country following the announcement of death sentences for former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal in a case concerning crimes against humanity.
In an official statement, the government described the verdict as
“historic” and urged citizens to remain peaceful, composed, and responsible
during this sensitive period.
Recognising the emotional impact of the judgment—particularly on the
families of those killed during the July uprising—the government acknowledged
that heightened sentiments are natural.
However, it strongly warned against any form of unrest, provocation,
violence, or illegal activities in the aftermath of the ruling.
The statement emphasised that no one should allow their emotions to
lead to actions that could disrupt public order. The government issued a firm
caution that any attempt to create chaos, disorder, or destabilise law and
order would be met with strict action.
Authorities reiterated that maintaining peace is essential to
ensuring stability in the coming days and stressed that law enforcement
agencies are prepared to deal decisively with any attempts to incite
disturbances.
