A Dhaka court on Monday ordered the freezing of 57 bank accounts holding Tk2.89 crore belonging to former minister and Awami League Joint Secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak, his wife Syeda Arjuman Banu, and their daughter S Amreen Rakhi.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz issued the order, granting a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to the application, suspicious transactions amounting to Tk32 crore have taken place in various bank accounts held in the names of Jahangir Kabir Nanak, his wife, and daughter.
The transactions were allegedly conducted to conceal or disguise illegally obtained money through corruption and bribery, which constitutes money laundering. The freezing order was deemed necessary to ensure a proper inquiry, the plea added.
