At least five people were killed and 19 others injured as a passenger bus rammed into a parked dump truck on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram Sunday evening.

Identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Sources said the accident occurred when a Chattogram-bound bus from Dhaka lost control and hit the truck that remained parked on the highway in the Battali area around 6pm.

On information, a team from the Sitakunda Fire Station rushed to the scene.

“We found four bodies and rescued 20 injured passengers from the spot. They were sent to Sitakunda Upazila Health Complex,” Sitakunda Fire Station in-charge Belal Hossain said.

Dr Mohammad Imran, a physician at the emergency department of the health complex, said one more individual died here, while 12 of the injured were referred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for better treatment.
