Student union elections at Shahjalal University Science and Technology (SUST) will be held on 17 December, according to the election schedule unveiled on Sunday.

The results will be published on the same day, said Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Prof Dr Abul Mukit Mohammad Mokaddes in a press conference.

On Saturday, the university administration had assured the students that they would “consider” holding the elections before 10 December. The students lifted a nearly six-hour siege on the VC office following the assurance.

It remains unclear how the students would respond to the 17 December election date, which they had rejected after an initial announcement on Friday night.

As per the announced schedule, the draft voter list will be published on 20 November, complaints over the list will be accepted until 3pm on 22 November and the final list will be published on 23 November.

Nomination papers will be distributed from 24 November to 26 November. The draft list of candidates will be published on 28 November. The final list will be published on 2 December after settling complaints and completing candidacy withdrawal procedures, Prof Abul Mukit said.
