Public transports will run on all the roads across the country on Monday despite Awami League’s “lockdown programme,” the Road Transport Workers’ Federation has said.
The country’s public transport owners and their workers will carry out their regular activities to keep the road communication and transportation services uninterrupted, said Humayun Kabir, acting general secretary of the Workers’ Federation, at a press conference at the organisations head office in the capital.
Any untoward incident on Monday, will be “resisted,” he said.
He alleged that the Awami League, now a banned political party, has called the blockade programme to obstruct the interim government’s election preparations. The workers’ body “strongly condemns” such destabilising moves, Humayun Kabir said.
The Workers’ Federation has also asked the government to compensate the public transport owners and employees for the damages caused by Awami League’s arson attacks over the past week, he said.
Around 20 public transports were torched across the country and one driver was killed during Awami League’s previous lockdown programme on Thursday, he noted.
