Cracks have developed in the wall of the historic Kaliganj (Kamdev) Karamatia Dakhil Madrasa in Itakumari Union of Pirgachha upazila in Rangpur.
Despite visible structural damage, classes are continuing inside the building, prompting concern among guardians.
According to teachers, more than 200 students from several classes are currently studying in the madrasa. The appearance of cracks has sparked mixed reactions among parents, many of whom fear the condition of the building may pose risks to their children.
Madrasa Superintendent Hossain Sohrawardy said classes are being conducted under risky conditions.
“We are compelled to continue teaching despite the danger,” he said. “The madrasa has no permanent source of income or land. We are not receiving donations either. If we receive government support, we will be able to repair the building.”
Pirgachha Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sheikh Rasel said necessary steps will be taken to renovate the madrasa building.
