BNP Standing Committee member and former minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said the party is prepared to make all necessary changes to laws and the overall business environment to support traders and investors if it returns to power.

Speaking as the chief guest at a views-exchange meeting with business leaders from the Faridpur division on Saturday at the Faridpur Sadar Upazila Parishad hall room, he said the BNP has already completed its policy planning so that reforms can begin immediately if the party forms government.

“We are ready to do everything necessary for businessmen — change laws, improve the environment, ensure investments. We have already finalised our plans because implementing them after coming to power takes too much time. We want to finish the groundwork before the election,” he said.

Khasru said the BNP will move away from large megaprojects, arguing that such projects have become a financial burden for the government.

“Instead of megaprojects, we will focus on skill development. Bangladesh must adopt a model where every citizen benefits. Investing in human capital is more important for the future,” he added.

He said that the BNP aims to empower people rather than strengthen the authority of the government.

“We are interviewing for jobs, but the real employer is the people of this country. Our goal is to return power to the people, not just to form a government.”

He emphasised that no particular group should dominate the economy, and the private sector must be expanded to ensure balanced growth.

“Not everything has to be done by the government. The private sector must be strengthened. Bangladesh must move forward through private-sector contributions,” he said.

Amir Khasru announced that the BNP has adopted a new slogan — “Economic Democratisation”, ensuring citizens’ wider participation in the national economy.

The BNP leader outlined plans for increased investment in education, skill development, and free primary healthcare for all.

He criticised bureaucratic hurdles that hinder business, noting that opening a restaurant in Bangladesh requires 19 separate permissions.

“These approval processes must be completed within 15 days. We must end bureaucratic complications, bribery and corruption. Every decision must have a time frame,” he added.

Focusing on major reforms for Bangladesh’s capital market, he said, “Our capital market has been taken over by share manipulators. We have big plans for capital market development. Many want to invest but they demand a stable environment. We will improve power, gas supply and global internet infrastructure.”

He stressed that future investments must avoid waste and environmental damage, aligning with the global shift toward a green economy.

The meeting was chaired by BNP Divisional Organising Secretary Shama Obaid.
