A parked minibus was damaged in a fire early Saturday on the Dhaka–Chattogram Highway in Siddhirganj, Narayanganj.

The blaze broke out around 6:00 am in the Shimrail area, in front of the Road Transport and Highways Division’s executive engineer’s office, said Siddhirganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahinur Alam.

According to police, the driver of the Naf Paribahan bus had parked the vehicle on the highway around 10:00 pm on Friday and left it there overnight. Locals spotted flames coming from the vehicle early in the morning and alerted authorities.

Fire Service responders arrived at the scene and brought the blaze under control, but the seats inside the bus were already burned, the OC said.

Police have yet to determine the cause of the fire and are investigating whether it resulted from arson or a mechanical malfunction.
