The Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police and RAB have arrested two suspects, including the prime accused, over the killing and dismemberment of a man in the capital.
Ashraful Haque, 43, was killed on Tuesday at a rented house in Dania. The body was cut into 26 pieces on Wednesday and the pieces were dumped near the National Eidgah on Thursday, police said.
Jarejul Islam, the childhood friend of Ashraful, killed him by striking on the head with a hammer, and later, his lover Shamima assisted in dismembering the body, according to Jarejul’s initial statement given to the police.
DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Talebur Rahman confirmed the two culprits were arrested from Cumilla and Dhaka on Friday night.
According to the statement, Jarejul developed a relationship with Shamima, a mother of two whose husband lives abroad, three years ago on social media.
At one point, Jarejul introduced Shamima to Ashraful. Later, Ashraful too developed a relationship with Shamima, without the knowledge of Jarejul. Last week, Jarejul came to know about the affair with his fiancé, and decided to kill Ashraful.
