Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu on Friday said the government is taking various initiatives to overcome economic challenges and ease public suffering by creating employment opportunities and increasing people's incomes.
Alongside introducing family and farmer cards, the government is focusing on creating new entrepreneurs to expand employment and improve people's livelihoods, he said.
The minister made the remarks while responding to questions from journalists after inaugurating the third Regional Cub Camporee 2026 at Thakurgaon Government Boys' High School grounds in the morning.
Asked about measures to control commodity prices, Dulu said the government had taken responsibility at a time when the economy was in a fragile condition.
“Under the leadership of the prime minister, we are working at different levels to reduce people’s suffering. We are distributing family and farmer cards to strengthen people's economic capacity. Our main goal is to create entrepreneurs and employment opportunities so that people's incomes and livelihoods improve,” he said.
Highlighting the importance of scouting, the minister said it could play an important role in keeping young people away from drug abuse and gambling addiction. He also urged scouts to contribute to disaster management and raise public awareness.
Children who develop discipline through scouting from an early age can build orderly lives and protect themselves from social irregularities and discrimination, he added.
President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir's message of greetings was read out at the programme by his Private Secretary Md Abu Awal.
