A man and his six-year-old daughter were killed in an attack allegedly stemming from a land dispute in Sirajdikhan upazila of Munshiganj on Thursday.
The victims were Golap Hossain, a resident of Doshorpara village under Latabdi union, and his daughter, Toyaba Akter.
Sirajdikhan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Alauddin said the father and daughter came under attack while Golap was returning home with Toyaba after visiting his father, who worked at a brick kiln in the Ramkrishnadi area, on Wednesday afternoon.
The attackers allegedly hacked them. They left Toyaba’s body on an abandoned plot beside the brick kiln, while severely wounded Golap died on the way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Thursday.
Toyaba’s grandmother, Taslima, said the family suspected that the attack was linked to a land dispute with a neighbour.
Police have detained one person for questioning over the incident, OC Alauddin said, adding that operations were underway to arrest others involved.
