Mosque, puja mandaps symbolise lasting legacy of harmony in Faridpur
A A

A mosque standing between two Durga Puja mandaps in Faridpur city has become a symbol of religious harmony, with Muslims and Hindus observing their respective religious rituals peacefully for nearly three decades.

The mosque, located near the Broken Road intersection, stands between the puja mandaps of the Faridpur District Bus Owners' Association and the District Minibus Owners' Association.

During Durga Puja, worshippers from both communities perform their religious rituals side by side, respecting each other's beliefs and practices.

Organisers keep the mandaps' music off during Muslim prayers, while puja activities begin after the prayers conclude.

Local residents said the arrangement had continued without conflict for years, reflecting Faridpur's longstanding tradition of communal harmony. Visitors from different areas have also praised the peaceful coexistence.

Faridpur District BNP Convener Syed Modarres Ali said people of different religions had long lived together and celebrated their respective festivals in harmony.

He added that political support was being provided to preserve the peaceful atmosphere.

Tanzina, director of the Madaripur Ansar Battalion, speaking on behalf of the deputy director of the Dhaka Range Ansar Battalion, said the law and order situation in the area was very good.

She described the coexistence of a mosque and two puja mandaps at the same location as a model of religious harmony for the country.
