Two giant cows named ‘Rajababu’ and ‘Sadababu’, each weighing around 900 kilograms, have become major attractions ahead of Eid-ul-Azha in Kalai upazila of Joypurhat.
People from different areas are visiting the owners’ houses daily to catch a glimpse of the cows, with many taking photos and videos. Locals said the festive mood surrounding Eid in the area has largely centered around the two massive animals.
‘Rajababu’ belongs to Rezaul Karim Raja of Panchgram area under Punat union, while ‘Sadababu’ is owned by Fazle Rabbi of Matrai union. Both cows have been raised with special care for more than three years.
Owner Rezaul Karim Raja said he raised Rajababu like a family member and plans to sell the cow for around Tk7 lakh due to family needs. He said the cow had become well known in the locality for its loud calls at night, which many residents believed helped deter thieves and robbers.
Local resident Rakib Hossain said Rajababu had become widely familiar in the area and was often jokingly referred to as the “night watchman” of the neighbourhood.
Meanwhile, the huge white cow ‘Sadababu’ has also drawn significant public attention for its calm nature. Owner Fazle Rabbi said the cow developed a close bond with family members and was especially friendly with children.
Local resident Abdul Kader said people from nearby upazilas have been visiting the area after videos of the cow went viral on social media.
Kalai Upazila Livestock Officer Dr Md Moniruzzaman said the healthy condition and large size of the cows reflect the hard work and proper management of local farmers.
He added that modern and planned cattle farming can help farmers earn better profits while meeting the country’s growing demand for sacrificial animals during Eid-ul-Azha.
