Television journalist hacked in Netrokona

A journalist was seriously injured after being hacked by some miscreants in Durgapur upazila of Netrokona on Monday afternoon.
The injured, Lutfuzzaman Alif Fakir, is the Netrokona correspondent of private television channel Ruposhi Bangla. The attack took place near Teribazar Ghat on the River Someshwari, when the journalist and his colleague were on their way to cover a local event.
He was initially treated at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital before being transferred to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital for advanced care.
According to witnesses and police sources, four men on two motorcycles appeared in the Teribazar Ghat at 1pm and attacked Lutfuzzaman with machetes, injuring his arms, back, and other parts of his body.
Dr Salvia Shehrin, emergency physician at Durgapur Health Complex, said the victim has multiple deep wounds and suffered significant blood loss. “He was referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment,” she added.
Speaking to the media, the victim’s colleague Shahjahan Sheikh said, “As soon as we got off the motorcycle, four men surrounded us. Two of them began hacking Alif indiscriminately with machetes, severing tendons in his right hand and injuring his left fingers and back. He suspected the attack may be linked to one of his recent reports.”
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Durgapur Police Station Mahmudul Hasan said, “No written complaint has been filed yet, but we are investigating the matter.”
