Constable among four arrested for bike snatching

Police arrested four people, including a constable, in Chattogram on Wednesday over the snatching of a motorcycle and the abduction of its owner. Based on information obtained from the arrestees, police recovered the motorcycle from a garage in the city’s Faiyaltali Bazar area.
Khulshi police station Sub-Inspector Md Nasim confirmed the arrests. The arrestees are Constable Anik Das, Wahid Mohammad Jebel Hossain alias Anik Wahid, Mohiuddin Selim, and Wahed Nasir alias Diamond.
Anik Das was attached to Rajarbagh Police Lines in Dhaka under the sports quota and posted at Bandarban Police Lines.
Police said a group of men in a private car and two motorcycles intercepted Md Apu, from Noakhali, in front of Foy’s Lake on Friday night. They snatched his motorcycle, beat him, and forced him into the car at gunpoint, while one of the attackers rode away on his bike.
The attackers later took his mobile phone and dropped him in the city’s Shershah area around 3am. Apu later filed a general diary with Khulshi police station, Nasim said. Apu later found his motorcycle advertised for sale on Anik’s Facebook account. “He contacted the seller, agreed to buy it for Tk5.30 lakh and sent Tk5,000 as advance payment while concealing his identity,” the sub-inspector said.
“Anik asked Apu to meet him at the police box in front of Bayezid Link Road. When Apu arrived, he first informed Khulshi police station. Police then arrested Anik Das from the spot,” Nasim added.
Efforts are underway to arrest other members of the gang and recover the private car.
