Prime Minister's political assistant Md Rashed Khan said on Friday there is no difference between the political rhetoric of Jamaat-e-Islami and Awami League (AL). He spoke after visiting Hefazat-e-Islam Ameer Allama Muhibbullah Babunagari at Al-Jamiatul Islamia Azizul Uloom Babunagar Madrasa in Fatikchhari upazila to seek dua.
"Jamaat says one thing publicly but does another. They say they are cooperating with the government, but their activities are aimed at making the government fail," he said.
Rashed said Jamaat had chosen December, the month of Bangladesh's Victory Day, for its political programmes.
"December is our month of victory. Inshallah, we too will remain on the streets with the people of Bangladesh in December.
We want to see who starts a movement to bring down the government in December," he said.
He warned that people would resist attempts to destabilise the government.
"From the birth of Jamaat until today, we have seen nothing but hypocrisy in their behaviour," he added.
Rashed alleged that some Jamaat activities had created "doubt and concern" among the public and that the party had moved away from Islamic values despite claiming to pursue Islamic politics.
Praising Babunagari's statements on Islamic values ahead of the national election, he said the ameer had clearly spoken out against those who, according to him, were harming Islam by using its name and symbols.
He added that Babunagari had helped make people aware of attempts to mislead them by distributing "tickets to heaven".
The BNP government is committed to ensuring justice for the Shapla Chattar killings, Rashed said.
Chattogram Zila Parishad Administrator and BNP Central Organising Secretary Mahbuber Rahman Shamim and Hefazat central leader Mufti Faisal Habib were among those present.
