Students of the newly established Dhaka Central University (DCU) on Sunday protested the appointment of Prof Md Lutfor Rahman as the university’s vice-chancellor (VC), saying they will not accept any Dhaka University (DU) teacher in the DCU administration.
DCU was established through a movement to free its students from the deprivation they faced at DU by showing a “red card” to the university, yet a DU professor has been appointed as its VC, the students said at a press conference in the capital’s Science Lab area.
The protesters also demanded the reinstatement of DCU former VC Prof Md Nurul Islam.
Earlier, students from different campuses began gathering at the Science Lab intersection with “red cards” in their hands after 10am, blocking the road and staging demonstrations.
Their demands include a schooling model for DCU, an academic roadmap covering all sessions from 2021-22, an administrative building at any of its seven campuses, and the immediate launch of all educational and administrative activities.
