The next meeting of the Search Committee formed to appoint the new chairman and commissioners of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) will be held on Sunday.
Speaking to the Daily Sun on Wednesday, Justice Rajik-Al-Jalil said, “The next meeting of the Search Committee will be held on Sunday.”
However, he did not provide details about the agenda for the meeting or the timeline for finalising the recommendations.
Asked about the number of applications submitted, he said the information had not yet been placed before the committee. “This has not happened yet, so we cannot say anything at this moment,” he said.
Another member of the Search Committee, wishing to remain anonymous, said that only one meeting of the committee has been held so far. During that meeting, there was no discussion about when the final list of candidates for chairman and commissioners would be sent to the President or about a specific timeline for preparing the recommendations.
He said the upcoming meeting may discuss the review of applications, the process of scrutinising candidates’ qualifications and experience, and further steps. However, details are not being disclosed in advance as the committee has decided to keep the proceedings of its meetings confidential.
Asked whether the committee’s recommendations would be sent to the President within this month, Justice Rajik-Al-Jalil said, “Let’s see after the meeting.”
Meanwhile, sources at the Cabinet Division said the deadline for submitting applications for the posts of ACC chairman and commissioners ended on 13 July. More than 300 curricula vitae (CVs) were submitted to the Cabinet Division within the stipulated timeframe.
However, the applications have not yet been formally presented to the Search Committee. As the Cabinet Division
collected the applications, the number of CVs submitted and details of the applicants may be placed before the committee at its next meeting.
Sources further said that after the scrutiny process begins, the candidates’ qualifications, experience and other relevant matters will be reviewed. Whether any former ACC officials have applied will also be confirmed after the verification process.
The date of the meeting is being fixed in coordination with the schedule of the head of the Search Committee, who is a justice of the Appellate Division. Based on the recommendations of the committee, the President will appoint the new chairman and commissioners of the ACC.
Earlier, the government formed a five-member Search Committee headed by Justice Md Rezaul Huq of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.
