Police on Saturday morning recovered the throat-slit body of a woman and her husband beside her with a severe knife wound to his neck from a residential building in Gazipur’s Konabari.
Law enforcers suspect he attempted to take his own life after killing his wife.
The victim, Rahima, 35, was the wife of Emran, 40, son of Suruj Ali from Amtoli village under Haluaghat police station in Mymensingh. The couple had been living in a rented flat on the 5th floor of Ekota Villa in the Konabari area for many years, with their lone daughter Sharmin, 16.
Konabari Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Papon Hossain said, “Police went to the scene after being informed by locals. Initial evidence suggests Emran killed his wife with a sharp weapon during a family dispute. He then tried to commit suicide by cutting his throat.”
According to police and locals, the couple’s daughter Sharmin witnessed the incident and informed neighbours, who later called police.
Sharmin informed the police that her parents often used to engage in altercations. They quarrelled again on Friday night. When no sound came out of the room later, she informed the neighbours.
