BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed on Saturday pledged that if BNP comes to power, his party would accept all demands placed by the Combined Khatm-e-Nubuwwat Council and take necessary legal measures.
“Insha’Allah, if Allah grants us the responsibility to govern Bangladesh and the people place their trust in us, all the demands you have raised today will be implemented through proper legal channels,” he said while addressing the International Khatm-e-Nubuwwat Grand Conference at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital.
He recalled that during the tenure of martyred President Ziaur Rahman, the phrase “absolute trust and faith in the Almighty Allah” was included in the Constitution’s preamble and the fundamental principles of state policy but was later removed. “You know it was removed. Insha’Allah, we will restore it if we are voted to power,” he told the large gathering.
During his speech, some participants urged Salahuddin to personally declare Qadianis as non-believers. The BNP leader replied that legal measures would be taken in Parliament, emphasising the need for national unity to implement the proposal.
The annual conference drew devotees from across Bangladesh and abroad, beginning at 9am and continuing until 2pm. Scholars from five countries, including Bangladesh, addressed the event.
The programme was organised by the Combined Khatm-e-Nubuwwat Council, with the Khatm-e-Nubuwwat Protection Committee Bangladesh overseeing arrangements.
International participants included Maulana Fazlur Rahman, member of Pakistan’s National Assembly; Maulana Ilyas Ghuman, Islamic thinker from Pakistan; Maulana Hanif Jalandhari, secretary general of Wafaq ul Madaris Al-Arabia, Pakistan; Mufti Abu al-Qasim Nomani, Muhtamim of Darul Uloom Deoband, India; Maulana Mahmood Madani, president of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind; Shaykh Abdur Rauf Makki, Naib-e-Ameer of the International Khatm-e-Nubuwwat Movement, Saudi Arabia; and Sheikh Musab Nabil Ibrahim, professor at Al-Azhar University, Egypt.
