The first day of the Bengali New Year is a day we anticipate for a whole year. Over the last decade, Pahela Baishakh celebrations have become immensely popular in the urban areas. Designer houses bring out exclusive collections aimed for this day. Luxurious hotels and resorts give special offers while you see cafes and restaurants taking in a deshi vibe. With so much festivities and excitement, it’s easy to get carried away. However, if you are not properly geared up, your day of excitement can become an event of disappointment. It’s absolutely important that you keep a plan in your mind and follow that plan. Here are some things you have to keep with you and some that you need to remember before you go out to embrace the festivities of Pahela Baishakh:
Know the rules of the place
For security purpose, heavy bags and other paraphernalia will be denied in many public places on this day. If you are planning to go somewhere like that with a heavy bag full of food, makeup kit, etc, you better think again! It’s quite probable you will have to walk a long way before going to your final destination. Over there, if you are informed that you cannot take these with you, you might feel frustrated. If there is something in your bag that is valuable but that needs to be discarded, you might even find yourself walking back to your home in the heat without participating in the fun. Try to avoid that. Know the rules of where you are going and respect those rules!
Keep a tissue
You will need to battle the sweat on this day with tissue. Take a few of those handy tissues! You might also want to fix your makeup with tissue.
Carry waterMake sure you carry a bottle of water with you if you are participating in the procession or going to any public gatherings. There is a very good chance that it will be extremely hot and you may not find water where you are.
Retouch your makeup now and then with a dab of powder. Try not to apply foundation on this day, especially during the daytime as this will be creating a mess in the heat. It’s rather better to put on powder and reapply it at times throughout the day.
Pahela Baishakh is a day we may break all rules when it comes to eating! If you are diabetic, slow down on the sweets. If you have asthma, carry an inhaler. Carry any medicine with you that you might need.
Wear comfortable footwear
Save your luscious high heels for another occasion. If you are going to walk miles, flip flops will be a better choice. You could buy one solely for this day and then discard it if it becomes too worn from walking. One with bejeweled embellishments will also look great. Men can opt for sandals or converse, whichever feels better.
