A court in Dhaka on Saturday sent Ahmed Shahriar Reza Dwip to jail in the murder case filed over the death of former Air Force official Tahsif Sauri.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Monirul Islam passed the
order following a police petition, said State Prosecutor Shamsuddoha Sumon.
Another suspected accused, Jerika Tasnim Disha, a friend of
Tahsif Sauri, was also sent to jail after being remanded twice in the case.
On the day, investigation officer Firoz Uddin, an inspector
of the Tongi River Police Outpost, produced the accused before the court after
the completion of his remand and filed a petition seeking his detention in
jail.
Dwip, described as a friend-like younger brother of Tahsif,
was placed on a total of 10 days' remand in three phases in the case.
The detention petition said Dwip had provided several important pieces of information about the incident during interrogation. However, those details were being kept confidential and verified in the interest of the investigation.
It also claimed that he was clever and had tactfully avoided
answering several questions, maintaining silence during interrogation.
Meanwhile, during the hearing, lawyers for the accused
sought bail, while the prosecution opposed the plea. After hearing both sides,
the court rejected the bail application and ordered that Dwip be sent to jail.
According to the case details, Tahsif went missing after leaving
home on the evening of 27 October at the invitation of his younger friend Dwip.
His body was recovered by River Police from the Rajabari Ghat area of the Turag
River the following afternoon.
Following his death, Tahsif's father, KM Enayetul Karim, filed a case against unidentified persons with Uttarkhan Police Station on 30 October. Police later showed Dwip as an arrested suspect in connection with the case.
