The Federation of Bangladeshi Associations in North America (FOBANA) is set to celebrate its 40th anniversary with a three-day convention in Orlando, Florida, from 4 to 6 September.
The convention will be held at the Holiday Inn Resort in Kissimmee, Florida, and is expected to bring together members of the Bangladeshi diaspora from across the United States, Canada and Bangladesh, according to a press release.
Organisers said the event would mark four decades of unity, culture and heritage among Bangladeshis living in North America and could become one of the largest celebrations of the Bangladeshi community in Florida’s history.
Preparations for the convention have reached an advanced stage, with all hotel accommodation at the main venue already fully booked. Nearby hotels have also reportedly sold out as guests prepare to travel to Orlando from across the United States.
Participants are expected from South Florida, Miami, Orlando, Tampa, Atlanta, New York, Texas, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Michigan, Washington, DC, California, North Carolina and Arizona, among other places. Guests from Montreal and Toronto in Canada, as well as Bangladesh, are also expected to attend.
The convention will feature renowned artistes from Bangladesh alongside emerging performers from across the United States.
More than 12 seminars are planned, covering issues including business, youth and women’s empowerment, real estate and other topics.
A grand opening ceremony will celebrate FOBANA’s 40-year journey, while the three-day programme will also include cultural performances, vendor exhibitions and displays of traditional and contemporary Bangladeshi fashion.
Prominent television and print media outlets serving the Bangladeshi community are also expected to attend and cover the event.
FOBANA Executive Chairman Jahid Hossain and Executive Secretary Nihal Rahim have invited members of the Bangladeshi community to join the convention, describing it as a historic opportunity to celebrate the organisation’s four decades and look towards the future.
