Egypt coach Hossam Hassan divorces first wife after alleged fight between two wives

Egypt national football team head coach Hossam Hassan has formally divorced his first wife, Howaida Al-Gharbawy, amid heightened tensions in his personal life.

The divorce reportedly came after a physical altercation between his two wives at a luxury hotel café on Egypt’s North Coast last Friday, according to reports.

Mohamed Shams, lawyer for Hassan’s second wife, Dina Mostafa, confirmed the divorce. The decision brings an end to Hassan’s long-standing marriage to Howaida Al-Gharbawy, with whom he has three children — Aya, Rua and Omar.

Fight breaks out at North Coast hotel

The incident reportedly took place at a café inside an upscale hotel in Egypt’s North Coast, where Hassan’s two wives came face to face.

According to reports, a verbal argument between the two women escalated into a physical confrontation, causing panic among other guests. Several people reportedly alerted police.

Both women were said to have sustained injuries and bruises during the altercation. Hassan reportedly struggled to calm the situation and eventually lost consciousness amid the intense confrontation.

A video of the incident and details of the dispute subsequently spread across social media, triggering widespread discussion in Egyptian sporting circles.

As tensions escalated, Hassan decided to take formal steps to end the dispute, reports said.

Hassan had previously separated from first wife

Hassan and Howaida had been together for many years. The couple reportedly separated for around 10 days in 2022 before later reconciling and resuming their marriage.

This time, however, Hassan has decided to formally end the relationship following the latest dispute.

Hassan married Dina Mostafa in 2015. She is also known as ‘Dan Adam’. Their relationship reportedly began after they met in Marina on Egypt’s North Coast and later developed into marriage.

Under his management, Egypt reached the last 16 of the most recent FIFA World Cup before being eliminated by Argentina in a controversial match.
