Thousands of people gathered at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on Wednesday to celebrate Eid-e-Miladunnabi, the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam).
Maizbhandari devotees from Dhaka and different parts of the country started arriving at the venue from the morning to join a Jashn-e-Juloos rally organised by Anjuman-e-Rahmania Moynia Maizbhandaria and the Eid-e-Miladunnabi Celebration Council.
According to the organisers, the rally, which started from the south gate of Suhrawardy Udyan, will pass through Doel Chattar, the Education Bhaban and the Bangladesh Secretariat before returning to Suhrawardy Udyan, where an international peace rally will be held.
From early morning, people started entering the park through different gates, while buses carrying participants from different districts were parked in nearby areas. Two separate temporary pavilions have also been set up on the southern side of the park for male and female participants.
Organisers said national politicians, Sufi scholars from different countries, Islamic scholars, academics and religious leaders will address the international peace rally, where a large number of Sunni Sufi devotees are expected to participate.
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was born in 570 AD in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, on the 12th day of Rabi’ al-Awwal in the Hijri calendar. He passed away on the same day in 632 AD.
