Rajshahi University (RU) authorities have taken a preliminary decision to lower the minimum GPA requirements for students of Humanities and Science groups to apply for first-year undergraduate admission tests, considering the results of this year's HSC examinations.
Professor Belal Hossain, Dean of the Faculty of Arts of the university, disclosed the decision on Monday night.
He said the first meeting of the admission test committee was held on Monday, where the decision was taken in view of the comparatively poor results of this year's HSC examinations.
As the HSC exam results this year are comparatively poor, a preliminary decision has been taken to relax the eligibility for application for Humanities and Science groups, considering the students' situation.
Emphasis has been given to ensuring that admission seekers do not face any kind of loss.
According to the preliminary decision taken in the meeting, students of the Humanities group must have a minimum GPA of 3.00 separately in SSC and HSC examinations, including the fourth subject, and a total GPA of 6.50 in the two examinations.
In the last academic year, the condition for this group was to have a total GPA of 7.00 in the two examinations.
On the other hand, students of the Science group must have a minimum GPA of 3.50 separately in the SSC and HSC examinations and a total GPA of 7.00 in the two examinations.
In the last academic year, the total GPA requirement for this group was 7.50.
However, a decision has not yet been made regarding the eligibility of students in the Commerce group. Professor Belal Hossain said that the eligibility requirements for the application may also be relaxed for this group.
Meanwhile, RU's first-year undergraduate admission tests for admission to first-year undergraduate (Honours) courses in the 2026-2027 academic year will start on January 8, 2027. The admission process will begin on that day with the examination of 'B' unit under the Faculty of Business Studies.
