Lakshmipur Society honoured and awarded students who secured GPA-5 in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations in Lakshmipur Sadar and Chandraganj upazilas.

The programme was held at the Town Hall auditorium in Lakshmipur town on Saturday, with Water Resources Minister and Lakshmipur-3 MP Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee attending as the chief guest.

The minister said the government was prioritising education to build a drug-free society.

“Drugs have been entering the country from neighbouring countries as part of a conspiracy to destroy our young generation’s potential,” he said, urging young people to remain alert and vigilant.

“If we can prioritise education, we will be able to free society from moral degradation,” he added.

Anee said the government was running the country amid economic hardship and had taken charge after the election while the country was in ruins. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has been giving considerable importance to education and healthcare, he said.

“Ensuring an examination-free environment for educational activities is one of our challenges,” the minister said.

Lakshmipur Society President Wahid Uddin Chowdhury Happy presided over the programme.

Lakshmipur Deputy Commissioner SM Mehedi Hasan, Lakshmipur Science and Technology University Vice-Chancellor Dr Hanif Murad, District Council Administrator Sahab Uddin Sabu, Lakshmipur Government College Principal Md Yousuf and World Wide Education BD CEO, Dhaka Metropolitan North Chhatra Dal Vice-President and Lakshmipur Society founding member Mahfuzur Rahman, among others, attended the event.

Mahfuzur Rahman said today’s talented young people were the future of the country.

“Lakshmipur Society organised the programme under the guidance of Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee to encourage young people to play a stronger role in building society and the nation,” he said.
